these were taken in the early 90s. not real good. the guy that owned them would still be using them today if he hadn't passed away. he loved his draft horses. never used the tractors unless he absolutely had to.

that is what my grandfather used he had about 8 horses we lived in the mountains not sure you could get a tractor to where we needed it.

my husband use to help this guy on his farm. he was using the horses when he was just a kid. he loved it to.

Great pics!They sure don't do things like that now a days do they.Got to hand it to the older people,they sure had things rough back then.It amazes me how they survived the old days.

We have a lot of Amish near me and most of them still use horses instead of tractors but some of them are switiching over. Growing up we had both and my Dad liked using the horses more than the tractors when possible and it is something you do not see too much of anymore. Sandy

this wasn't really that long ago. elmer had tractors just liked using the horses more. imagine it was tough befor the tractors were around. especially in the winter

It sure was a lot harder in those days..yet no one seemed to complain...horses have an easier life these days....

thanks. they were taken with a film camera. probably not a real expensive one either.

We live right in the middle of Amish here too. They all still use horses. I saw one man with a sled he made out of 2 x 4's. I guess it does the job. I felt so sorry for them these past couple weeks when we had so much snow and the weather was 0 or below. They looked miserable. Wish I could have gotten a picture.
