View Full Version : Yahoo photos/Picasa quality

In the past I used Yahoo, for emailing photos, by inserting them into the page. Now Yahoo seems to have discontinued that option and I have to send the as attachments, with a 10mb limit. Since all of my photos are 1 or 2mb, it takes quite a number of emails to send many photos of family events to members of the family. I've recieved as many as 52 photos, in one email from a family memeber, using Picasa. I was impressed, until I saw the reduction in quality (see examples below). Yahoo is eliminating this feature from it's email program and I guess I will be changing to Photobucket of some other image hosting service. I certainly would appreciate any suggestions in this matter.

It probably has to do with the way that member is saving/editing them!

They could always use the web album option and then just send the link instead of so many pics!

Thanks for the reply. I guess that I should have been more specific; for this test I emailed the same photo to myself, using each of the two programs. I'm going to give "Flickr" a try and see how that works.

I have no explanation for this. I can only show the results that I've had with this program. All of the photos that I've recieved from friends using Picasa have been res'd down from the originals. As an example, a 1.72mb photo (both original file and Yahoo'd version) when sent using Picasa, reduced to 46.9kb with a large loss in quality.

Check your Tools, Options in Picasa, for it's settings. Might find the answer there for the resizing..

That did it!! :) I've only used Picasa a very few times and didn't even realize I could change the settings. Thank you! I'll inform other family users. Maybe then I can get some good pics from them.

What I usually do with family is take all the photos I want to send and .zip them.
Then I upload the .zip to an uploading site like UsendIt, DivShare or RapidShare and get a link which I email to them. They just have to download a zip file and unzip it to get all the pics. One email only.

Thanks for the help. The family has a big hog roast coming up, in celebration of our niece's graduation from nursing school, and I'm sure to have quite a number of photos to share. This should do the trick.

Changed settings to "original size" and upped the pixels to the max.
