Its just a small dwarf variety called Teddy Bear. I leave them in the garden all winter and the chickadees eat the seeds. I didn't plant any this year so I guess they missed one seed.. :)

I love Sun Flowers!
I managed to get a few this year too. Mine were from fallen seed and from a wild flower mix I had sewn. I wasn't sure if I'd get any flowers off that seed or not as I put it in way late in the season but sure enough I've got flowers blooming :)

I used to plant them..but they take up too much room..and you need a chainsaw to cut the big ones down.. ;) :D

I planted the seed around the old stump where I feed the doves thinking some flowers around it would look nice. Dang flowers grew so tall & huge that the doves won't use the stump anymore cause they can't see out through all the flowers...lol

Those are huge. I remember when I was little, a neighbour down the street 5 houses away had these growing. Nice captures Dale.

I had quite a few here that needed chainsaws to cut down the stems as well, then the next year some came up in totally different areas, obviously the birds planted them.
Tough flower if they come up on their own, I'm surprised you still have so much garden this late in the year. Not as cold as I thought it would be at night apparently.

You should get a goat then, and you won't have to mow.

LOL...only a guy would take a pic of his snow blower :D
Dale doesn't have enough weeds & brush in his yard for goats...sheep would probably do a better job on keeping the grass clipped. Although one might help clear his garden out. I kept goats for several years, mainly Nubian. Goats are related to deer and eat pasture & brush type plants and will strip bark from trees & nibble leaves from low hanging branches. They do like dandelions & go nuts over apples. They will eat grass if that's all they are put on. Popular belief is that they eat tin cans...they don't, it's actually the paper off of the cans that they want.

I had a pet goat in my yard, she never touched grass or weeds. Would eat the rose bushes clean every chance she got.
