View Full Version : VirusTrigger
My friend got this on her computer(XP) and wow! I went searching and found this web page that helps you in the removal of it.
One question for you all. We aren't finding some of the files that it says to search for and remove. We removed the virustrigger.exe but can't seem to find others. Anybody know about this virus and maybe a different removal or more info?
Thanks!
Here's the link I found on the removal if anybody get's it(hopefully not). Norton does not catch it btw

Norton wouldn't catch it because it is not a virus, it is just one of the latest fad "rogue anti virus" schemes floating around the web.... like the Antivirus2009WinXP, and all the other similar names..... This link identifies it and provides removal steps:

One of the great programs for removal of the malware is Malwarebyte Anti-Malware..... http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php
Another is SuperAntiSpyware: http://www.superantispyware.com/
Both programs are free, although pay versions are available.....
Also suggest following Crockett's sticky for certain removal:'

Thank you for your response BigToe.
I realized i had forgotten to put the link in my post but it's the same one that you mentioned as well.
You have mentioned the same removal tool that so many others say works for this so that's the one were gonna try.
Your right that its not a virus just read Lot's of people saying Norton didn't catch it so I just thought I would share that info. I don't think Norton catches anything

Happy hunting, wishing you good fortune.... and you're right re Norton, I think I would have more faith in that rogue program than I would Norton itself.... :D ............ On that page linked, looks like the steps for removal of the various versions of the rogue anti-virus program AntiVirus2008, 2009, WinXPAntiVirus, etc., would also work.... From this forum, seems that Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is likely the best candidate for successful removal...... Good luck....
an update and still a problem. Ran that program Malwarebyte Anti-Malware and it found a few of the trigger. The problem is my toolbar has something called security toolbar and its right above the regular toolbar. It is associated with this damn thing. Under toolbars she diabled it but it is still there.
