Mr. or Mrs. Eagle ? was here to visit again yesterday. Taken from my kitchen window. I tried sneaking out for better shots but it spied me and of course took off :( It was extremely overcast yesterday & I was way into the digital zoom range so the pics came out dark, soft & full of noise. I attempted to fix but there wasn't much saving other than to slap on a poster filter & tweak from there. Hope you still enjoy seeing our eagle.

WTG, M25 :D . That would be super if it was a Mr/Mrs. It would even be better if they nested and raised young one's near you.

If this doesn't put a lump in your throat nothing will..............

Read the narrative before viewing.

Music video featuring a special free-flying Bald Eagle named 'Challenger' (in honor of the lost space shuttle crew) cared for by the non-profit American Eagle Foundation (AEF).

He's a 'human-socialized' bird accidentally raised by the people who rescued him - after being blown from a wild Louisiana nest in a storm as a baby in the late 1980s. Declared 'non-releasable' by federal and state wildlife authorities, he was trained by the AEF to perform educational free-flight demonstrations at high profile public events.

He's the first Bald Eagle in U.S. History that learned to free-fly into stadiums, arenas and ballrooms during the singing of the Star Spangled Banner. The celebrity eagle has appeared at numerous major sporting events like the World Series, Pro-Bowl, All-Star game, BCS National Championship, Fiesta Bowl, Men's Final Four, etc.

Challenger has also flown before 4 U.S. Presidents!

His life story is told in a children's storybook titled 'Challenger, America 's Favorite Eagle.'

From what I can tell they are not nesting here, even though there's timber across the road, but rather closer to the river. They must come up to hunt the fields. I've often tried to capture them in flight as they are circling but I'm not very good at zooming in & getting focused before they are out of the frame. I'm sure there's tips & tricks for capturing birds in flight which I'd best study up on :o Because of the size of this eagle I believe it most likely was a female.

Sure did put a lump in my throat! Thanks for sharing that awesome story & video.

I can't believe that I've never heard of Challenger.
Being friends with a gal who was a licensed rehabber for years I am all too familiar with how easily animals in rehab can become imprinted and not releasable. I myself have helped/worked with birds of prey on occasion that would never be able to be released due to the fact that they would not mend from their injuries to ever fly properly again. These birds can be used for educational purposes but it's very important if an animal has a chance to recover from it's injuries/situation not to imprint it by over handling. That can certainly lead to lots of problems. My friend had an owl once that even though they were careful with it's rehabilitation it became imprinted and would not leave once it was well & released. It stayed on the property and would often attempt to land on one's shoulder. Not a good thing considering how sharp their talons are. I believe that they finally had to relocate it to a very remote and unpopulated area.
