Desktop seems to be locked down....

Hi, my problem is really peeing me off!!:mad: My desktop seems to b 'locked-down' because all icons gone & I can't drag & drop icon to desktop because I get a little circle thru it w/a line thru the circle. Can anybody help me???

PS: I did hit the lock by mistake about 2 weeks ago but have no idea what it did, duhhhhhhh

Hey Lyn...remove your email addy from the post..spammers love that.... What operating system are you running and is it a desktop or laptop? What Antivirus, etc....we need info hun! Im sure someone can help you with your problem!! How are ya g/f?:D

Lyn...try right clicking on the task bar and then click "show Desktop" see if that helps..........or you can try right clicking on an open area of your desktop and then click refresh and see if that helps and then let us know what happens!

For XP.......right click desktop > Arrange Icons by > Select Show Desktop Icons

For Vista.......Right Click Desktop > Hover over View >Select Show Desktop Icons

I'm running Windows Vista & I have AVAST A/V (ALWAYS UPDATED) on my laptop, all kinds of spyware/malware programs, which U suggested & now got SpyBot Search & Destroy always running. It catches things B4 they get in the laptop. I can't right-click on Desktop ot Taskbar

THE RIGHT-CLICK ON THE TASKBAR OR DESKTOP WON'T WORK, thats what makes me think its locked sometime, thnx

What IS showing on the desktop? Is there a wall paper or is it just the default desktop?
Go to Start, Control Panel, Display, Desktop, Customize Desktop, Web Tab and make sure there is NO check mark in Lock Desktop Items.
Also, are you logged in as Administrator?
Did you check through the links that Mike posted?

Try booting into safemode and logon as the true Administrator...........then right click the desktop and see if it'll work.

Hi Jholland thnx & heres the scoop, still: I have a nice pic/wallpaper as my desktop w/nothing else on it! Under Control Panel (VISTA) there is no Display. I can not right-click on the desktop....nothing happens. I've noticed there is a Desktop Icon on the taskbar w/>> & when I click on the arrow, all my icons that SHOULD be on the desktop are all there.
