View Full Version : Getting Rid of Toolbar Icons

Hello! How are you? Every time I start up my computer, I have several icons that pop up in the toolbar area as shortcuts. I was wondering what I could do to make it so that every time I start up my computer these do not show up. Thank you very much! :)

Are they on the left side of the toolbar or the right side?

Are you talking about the Bar across the top of the screen or the bottom?
What Flavor of Windows are you using and what browser?

Hi, it's on the right side of the toolbar. I hope I'm calling it the right thing. It's where it has the start button...and then on mine some programs, then what is open, then on the right part of it it has a little box with certain things in it. I want to get rid of those icons. I'm using Windows ME, and I don't know what browser, sorry.

These are the programs that are loading at startup. Go to start, run and type msconfig and click on the startup tab. Uncheck the programs you don't want loading.
Go here to read more about what is safe to get rid of.

The Start button is on the left?

Yes sorry, the start button is on the left. Sunny, I did that, but not all the programs are listed there. What should I do? Thanks! :)

Open the programs and see whether they have an option to prevent them from running at boot. If you can't find anything, post back with the name of the program.

You can also look in your startup folder. The location of this folder depends on your OS. In Windows 98 it is located in C:\WINDOWS\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp If you find shortcuts to programs in that folder you can delete them.
What programs are you trying to get rid of?

Hi Brett-I had 2 left and I opened up 1 and got rid of the icon, but for the 2nd one I couldn't, when you put your mouse over it it says: Click to activate the GameCam SE Launcher. I had opened it up, but it only described what the icon was there for, not how to get rid of it.
Sunny-if I delete it from that folder, will it still be there and work properly?

The icons in your startup folder should be shortcuts. You can right click on them and select properties to make sure they are only shortcuts. It is safe to delete them. A program puts a shortcut in the startup folder when it is installed so that it loads every-time you start your computer. This is not the actual program file. Just a shortcut.
