To me, the greatest thing about Napster was not so much that the music was free but rather that it was utterly universal. You could find every tune ever recorded since everyone who wanted to share .mp3 files used Napster. Now, of course the user base is fragmented across several file sharing programs and networks.

If this new incarnation can recapture the universality (and assuming the fee to download an acoustically inferior version of a tune isn't out of line) then it could very well be successful.
