I have Microsoft Picture it Publishing. I don't know if it is a good program as I have never used any other. With my limited skill it is very user friendly.
I am waiting for some expert to answer your question to see if I have a good program or if there is something better on the market.
With the "get me or else" season just around the corner, I could add that to the ever increasing list I have made that keeps my husband awake a night! :)

Well I have a couple, Adobe photo delux and an old one called Live Pix, both good in their own way but for simple resizing and lightening etc you can't do much better than the free one we all know. "Irfanview".

I use Irfanview and I am happy with it.
I have tried other more sophisticated programs, but have gone back to Irfanview. It is simple and basic - and has great HELP!!Elly

Well, I have PSP 6, Photo Impact 7, PhotoImpression, Photo SuiteIII, Ulead Photo Express, Irfanview.,Ixila Photo Easy....and tons of filters and I use them all. I usually d/l and crop and enhance in PhotoSuite then use different ones for different effects. Here's my oldest son and his wife:

wildman,
if you really want a great program that compares with photoshop for 80% less $ go with paint shop pro.
high learning curve but well worth the bucks.

Hi Wildman,

Between Paint Shop Pro and IrfanView there is little left out. My computer would be a worthless thing without these great tools.

As with anything, it is not practice that makes perfect but perfect practice that makes perfect. However, the more you use a program and dig through the multitude of menus the easier it is to get whatever you want accomplished.

I love this new forum!!!

Has anyone here used Xnview? http://www.xnview.com/
I've had it since last summer & have used it alot. It reads over 400 file types, crops, color adjusts, has filters, resizes, can play audio files, & has many more nice features. The latest version lets you create a slide show & burn it on a CD. I have other programs also to do the things that Xnview can't, but this is a great freebie.

I have Microsoft Picture it Publishing 2001, Adobe Photoshop 7.0, Jasc Software Inc Paint Shop Pro 7, MGI PhotoSuite 4. Irfanview.
Microsoft Picture it Publishing is the easiest to use, to fix or change pictures.

I go with whatever John F says.
I almost have the same programs.
I agree that Picture It is the easiest for a quick fix for most of our amatuer needs.

Photoshop is the best, but I can't figure out how to do hardly anything with it, it is almost like you must work for NASA to use it.

The best FREE program that I know of is Oriens Enhancer Gold (http://www.oriens-solution.com/enhancer/). It does This Stuff. (http://www.oriens-solution.com/enhancer/#features)

I don't know about any other programs, I've only ever used Irfanview and Paint. Oh yeah, I used to have MicroAngelo, but I didn't like it enough to pay 40 bucks for it when the free trial ran out. That was a few years ago, dunno how much it costs (or if it is even available) now.

As you like Microsoft picture it, tell me how does one whiten things with it; or is there a program that would do it better?
For example how could I whiten the beard of Alfie?

Sheila, I took your picture into picture it, didn't do any good.
I forgot about this free software I've had for long time, very easy to use and FREE :D It took some color out but his beard is whiter.
see attachment

Here is where you can get DcEnhancer, scroll down to all most bottom of page to
Stand-Alone (EXE) version 1.3 ( 524 kB)
This version improves sampling quality of saved JPG files - it uses now the same quality as Photo-Brush.

I have Photo Album and it doesn't seem to want to work for me. I try to resize a pic and it says I don't have enough memory. I have gone in a deleted alot of stuff and still it says not enough memory. I've got Irfanview also. I'm looking for a free program that has frames? Any help here?

I have Photo Explosion and Microsoft Picture it Plus...after using Photo Explosion I removed Picture it....! Photo was so much easier and printing was a breeze with lots of options for multiple printing on a single sheet, postcards, greeting cards. Fixing red eye and other things was so easy. I am a novice and if I can do it...so can anyone else...believe me! Love it.

Has anyone used this? It has all the basic tools that the expensive programs have and does a great job. The layers, effects, and resizing options are easy to use.
This is part of the package Steve is selling now, the 'Digital Imaging Tool Kit'.

Which software is the better??

Ulead PhotoImpact 7 or

Microsoft Picture It! Publishing Platinum Edition 2002

I have seen these 2 softwares at a great price! I've seen both mentioned here and both sound good.

Ulead comes with Ulead GIF Animator 5. Does it do animations??

Thank you.

wildman,
i know i said paint shop pro in an earlier post. but if you do not want to spend the hours learning it i have another suggestion.
i went and got M$ digital image9 yesterday on a reccomendation from a friend ($78 after rebate).
i've never liked MS graphics programs but this is the one.
it's very intuitive and has a great video help file.
it is huge though if you do a full install, 1.3gig. but i'm sure once you get the hang of it you could reinstall to basic or install the basic and stick the cd in when you need it.
this has M$ picture it also.
