Is there any help for this picture. Its of my ancestors. It was from a tin type. I don't personally have the picture but it was placed on one of my family sites. Anyone want to give it a shot? or is it hopeless?

This is the best I could come up with, there are 3 different ones, each a little different. I played with them using Paint Shop Pro 8. Maybe someone that is better at this than I can come up with a better solution. I am new with PSP and am still a novice.

This is number 3, not much difference between 2 and 3, but 3 has a little more sharpness which may or may not be an improvement.

Oh Wow. I like the number 4 one. It really brings out the features. Now they look like real people instead of "tin heads" LOL

I've had a go with Photoshop Elements...what do you think?

I suspect that if the tintype had been scanned with a better scanner like an Epson Perfection that has built in tools for managing the scan, that a much better picture could have been saved. I have saved many an old picture using that scanner that at first glance seemed hopeless. I have only scanned one old tintype, it is only about 2"x2", and was almost black, but managed to get a fairly good picture from it.
Barney, yours looks much like my #2. I used the clone tool in PSP8 to cover up the white spots.
