Good morning, I am a newbie, so please excuse any mistakes i make posting. So much to learn. helcha3

Helcha,
Firstly, welcome to worldstart.
May I ask what size the pictures are that you are trying to send as an attachment.
If you have a free MSN account it will only allow pictures of one megabyte.
If you are not sure of the size, place your cursor over the relative picture and a balloon will tell you what physical size the picture is and also what size in kilobytes or megabytes it is.
Please advise the above for us to help you and also the steps you took before you received the blocked access message.

Helcha, do you have a web address for your camera phone? When my daughter sends them to me, straight from the camera, they are tiny thumbnails, when she sends them to her camera e-mail address, and then sends them to me they are a nice size. You might want to download irfanview. Its a free program, and you can resize them. I don't know if this is helping or not. I don't use msn for pictures. I have a account with Yahoo and have had no problems with sending pics from there.

dimensions 2048x1536 size 627kb, is to large of picture for email.
http://www.irfanview.com/
Do what Denine Louise said you won't be sorry, infanview is the best viewer for pictures, and can set to open all extensions if you want
After you have picture in infanview (File, Open, browse for picture), under image at top, Resize/Resampleon right side click 640 X 480 Pixels then Ok, under File click Save As, JPEG, makes a better extension for pictures.
see attachment
Good Luck

Helcha,
In answer to your last two questions.
Yes I would download all the plugins in Irfanview as it gives you more options for you to use.
Your camera would have come with a disk to set up a program to receive your pictures from your camera, so you could use this or you could just open Irfanview click on File and in that menu you will find "Acquire" click on this and it should say camera and or scanner, just click on camera and it should upload a picture from your camera.
I don't use a canon camera so I'm not aware of how it's program is set up but I would use it to transfer your pictures from the camera to whatever program you will find set up after running the disk given you with the camera.
Let us know how you go.

Your camera should have come with a wire usb plug on one end, if so plug it into camera and computer, and then look under My Computer to see it it's shows camera, if so double click on camera icon, your pictures should open in a folder, then move them to folder on your computer.
Every camera is different maybe get the book out and read. ;)

Ron D. I just purchased a Sony 5.0 Megapixels camera, I have a vacant USB connector and Infranview, my question is would it be better to install the USB Driver instead of using Infranview ???
I am still reading the instructions that came with my Sony camera
and I know that I will be back for more help. I have never used a digital camer beforein fact I have not made my first picture yet.
Your help as always will be deeply appreciated.

Hazel,
I would definately install your drivers/software from your disk that came with your camera.
I don't use a Sony camera but the process with all cameras are much the same I think.
Usually, you install the software and then plug in your camera to the USB connection and it will recognise your camera and tell you so. It most likely will tell you also that it is ready for use.
You can use the camera's software or as previously said, you can use "Irfanview" to download your pictures and then you can save them to wherever you wan't, say a folder "My Pictures" in My Documents. The reason for this is it makes it easier to backup your data, photo's etc if all these are in the one place.
That is of course if you backup your data.
A digital camera is a great tool so do enjoy it.

Thanks Ron D. I am going to get more memory for my PC, will have to order from the Internet, my PC is 4 years old can not find memory for it, will also purchase an AC power adapter for the Sony camera so that it will not eat up my batteries.
I have as yet not made any pictures with my camera, still reading instructions but will try today.
Thanks for your advice, I will install the driver as you suggested.
Thanks again Ron D..

My Sony 5.0 digital camera is really great I have made several pictures and I really like it, I do have a question...when speaking of number of images in the memory sticks under Capacity Images and size there is VGA, what does VGA mean? If I set my camera to VGA I will get more pictures per memory stick.
Thanks for your information.

Hazel,
I would think that the VG of the VGA would be to do with Video Graphics.
I would guess that your camera has video and sound capacity for short video's and that is what it is intimating.
Not having a Sony I can not give you any further advice, but I would look at your instruction book under video.
I'm glad you are having fun.

helcha,
now that you have a camera and are starting to enhance and work with the pictures please do not make the same mistake i did when i first started. never save the original picture you are working on, always save a copy of it or copy the original and work on that.
once you have changed and saved the original you can never go back. this is probably the best piece of advise you will ever get.
i just wish someone was around to tell me when i started.

Back to Helcha's first question.
The reason I recommended Irfanview was that she said the pictures were too large. I noticed alot of folks say they will resize the pic and then put them on whatever site they are on. My cousin puts hers on our myfamily web site and always has to resize them first.
And for Hazel,
When I go to Irfanview or whatever program you are using, I always save the new pic but rename it so I still have my original. I make a new folder and name it resized pics, or altered pics. something like that. This way I still have my original safe and can easily access my new colored, framed, resized pics. Good luck to both of you in your picture taking. Awwwww its sooooo good.

very good advise denine.
when i first started i saved alot of pix for email and did not know to do that. therefore i resized these down to a format that basicly ruined them all for further manipulation due to the small size i had saved them to.

Hazel, this has to do with resolution: This info is taken from my web cam. (Picture count may vary due to picture quality and memory issues)
Hope this helps.
RESOLUTION
MEGA.......1.08 MEGA PIXEL...... PICTURE COUNT.....12
SVGA.....800X600.........PICTURE COUNT 50
VGA.....640X480......PICTURE COUNT.....75
QVGA.....320X240....PICTURE COUNT.......300

Hello Hazel, I am not sure I understand exactly what you want in reference to time stamp. So I will answer with regards to my Kodak 5 mp.
When I turn the camera on, I have to manually scroll through the menu till I see time stamp. I click on the OK button..then it gives a new window, on how I want the time stamp set up. Then I click on the option I want then click on the OK button again. Then I exit the menu options and I am ready to take pictures.
My time stamp will show up on downloaded pictures to the computer and any printouts I make.
When I turn the camera off it reverts back to defaul settings, so the next time you have to set it manually again..don't know if this is what you are looking for...but you have to make sure you ok your settings for them to be there...you may not be doing this.
Hope this helps, if not let me know and I will try to help you.

Thanks again.

Hi Hazel,
As Robarro said you should go through your menu, and when you see time stamp click on it and it will ask you off or on...click on off then click on OK.
Hope I have been of some help to you.

Hi Hazel,
Something must have this locked in...have you looked in the manual on time stamp or have you done a google search on your camera...you may find some tips this way.
I know with my Kodak..not only is the manual online but also a tutorial or taking better pictures with my camera.
Hope you can find a solution to this.

I had not transferred to PC before today. I also have 256 Ram iinstalled on my PC. Here is hoping for better things from my PC.
