i have this old daguerreotype of my great-grandparents (both of whom i knew well) that i have been playing with. i've done some burn and dodge work and it's a lot better than it was. i'm posting it to see what you all can do with it. of course my original is at 600dpi not 72.

Migander, that is great! What program do you use? I love the coloring. Subtle, but good.

Amazing thing - she had on a 'pants suit.' :D Must be one of the first ones.

ok,
here's a try i did with a little airbrush and then i selected the faces and hands and did an ''auto levels'' on them in photoshop.

janice,
they were a nice looking couple and i think you are right about the dress. i hadn't noticed that. this was a wedding picture that i think was taken in 1899. she was a VERY stern women in her golden years. i never gave her any LIP.
my wife thinks he looks a little like leonardo dicap from titantic.

Here is my attempt, I used PSP8 to sharpen a little, and then colorized it.
here's my contributiion to framing a very handsome couple...and yes, he DOES look like Leo!!
Used Ulead PhotoImpact to softedge and light, PSP with Eye Candy for framing. I lost a wee bit of the quality saving but wanted to make it a smaller file.

psp is great and i've had it and pshop since version 5. i tend to use pshop all the time and don't know too much about psp.
these are all great pix and i saved them. considering what was started with.
i also think that when we do something like this we should post what program and what steps were used. that way we all learn more.
i really want to thank migander for doing the slight colorization which led me to the airbrush idea and further.
this has turned out better than i could have thought and i plan on printing these and giving to all concerned for xmas.
i'd post my file but it's 36megs and i don't think it would post.

just found out that this pic was not in 1899 but was circa 1904-5.
also i was told that it was almost certain that it was NOT a pants dress as she was very prudish and probably would not be caught dead in one, especially for her wedding.

Must be the way the dress is hanging..

Migander could you colorize this one for me, and Muzz would you put him in a frame. Also, I'd like to put one in of my mom that Muzz already framed and see if Migander will color it for me too? Please?

Hello all :)
I have been a lurker here and enjoyed these message boards for a long time. I am rather quiet and don't post on boards very often, but when I saw Denine Louise's picture I had to try out my PSP 8 to remove the scratches. I hope the results are satisfactory.
BTW Denine, she is a pretty lady

Oh I can't thankyou all enough. My mom is even more beautiful in that picture. When in the Navy, a friend did a pencil sketch of this same picture and it has always been my favorite. Mom had kinda strawberry blonde hair. The pic of gramps, looks like he has a beard, but he doesn't. Just the mustache. Heck, Even Sara Jane looks human. LOL. Hey I gotta love em, I'm a part of them. (by the way, I do alot of genealogy)

I have to apologize here. I was asking for help as I don't have any kind of program to do anything with pictures. A friend loaned me picture it but took it back, so I un installed it as you had to put the second disk in to make frames or anything. I have irfan view free but even though I downloaded the plug ins, theres no way I can put frames or color any of these. What would you suggest would be a good one for me to start with. Maybe my son will get me one for Christmas? Sounds good to me. Thankyou all again.

denine,
if you think he'd spend 80- 100 get paint shop pro 8.
it is a FULL fledged graphics program. one of the best for the bucks. high learning curve but you can do that as you go along.

Welcome Madeline and kick butt job!!!!!! Looks great! What did u use to remove the scratches? I used Photo Suite II when I did the framed one of Peggy but you did alot better with the scratches than I did. Don't be a stranger:)
Denine, sorry it took so long...here's Gramp framed, I used the colorized version. We have a cool assembly line going here, don't we? LOL
I agree with rob...PSP is the way to go. Once u master the basics, there are all kinds of cool free plugins to do so many neat things with!!
Well, geeso-louie.....getting sleepy, forgot the pic:) LOL

Muzz, thats a cool frame, only its the first pic he colored and he gave him a beard. Farther on down on the thread, he did it over and gave him a better face. I think he put a little frame on it. Isn't this just the greatest. Gosh I have so many old photo's that I can't wait to work on. Sure hope my son comes through for me, or else, I will have to take care of business myself. LOL. I just have to learn to do this. Its so amazing. I can understand why you love it so. Heres the picture he fixed his face on. He didn't have a beard, just a mustach. He was a portly gent don't ya think?

thanks for the "kick butt" compliment :p
I used psp8 scratch remover. It is hidden with the clone tool.
robarro...I agree about the learning curve.

Thankyou Burl, Her hair was a little less red, but oh you came soooo close especially not knowing the subject. Yipee, I am sure loving this. Still can't figure out how to do it, but I am having a ball. Downloaded psp for a trial for 60 days. Still got 50 to learn how to do it. Wonder if Picture it wouldn't be easier for me?
