Memory Card Types?

Hi Folks,
I have a couple questions about memory cards used in digital cameras.

A few years ago, I got an Olympus digital which uses Smart Media cards. At that time, the only cards being used were Sony stick, Smart Media, and Compact Flash memory cards. Now I see several new varieties and fewer mention of the Smart Media cards. Are they being phased-out? Recently, I have seen Secure Digital memory cards advertised that look the same shape as the Smart Media cards. Are they the same?

I found answers to all my memory card questions there. They weren't exactly the answers I wanted to hear, but ..........that's life!
