I am still patiently awaiting the free update CD for XP from Microsoft.
Meantime, I have autoupdate enabled and almost every time I am online the systray icon pops up and indicates that updates are downloading. This can go on for days before a balloon then pops up to say that downloads are ready for installation.
I clicked on 'Install' on Saturday and it took three hours to install the updates!
When I then next used my computer on Sunday evening, some of my programs would not work correctly.
Musicmatch Jukebox was so slow it was almost unuseable and Photoshop Elements was also very slow. My computer froze for several seconds on a few occasions also.
The end result is that I used System Restore to go back to Friday evening and all the problems disappeared.
My question is : should I disable AutoUpdate and rely on visiting the Update Website more often for critical updates only?
I remember Phil on the main forum suggesting that some of the non-critical updates can interfere with programs.
My experience would seem to verify this.
