This is soooooo Cool!!!

Yahoo messenger blew away AIM, MSN and all the rest before, and now with all the upgrades with this V 6, there's just no comparison.

Because it had issues with the status change and would not display properly on that screen. Also pageg 30 people and no reply. Not working at all. Old one is fine;)

Well, I went back to the old one for now. :( Mine seemed to cause me all sorts of resource problems. My computer is almost an antique and I try to keep it up as well as possible. I was needing to reboot at least every 2 hours, if not every hour. Sometimes I can go 2 days without rebooting. I guess I will wait and get it back again later. <wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh>

The only other good thing is I got my Elvis skin back. :D I hope they make the new one skinable. There weren't many choices.

If someone could tell me what I would use it for I might download this or another msg. program. I followed NN"s advise and installed it the day of his original post and started getting msg's right away from people I don't know. After 1 day I uninstalled it.

What has been improved upon with the version 6? I usually upgrade but quit doing so when I realized nothing that I used it for had changed :(

There's a place now for your own avatar now

There are these thing called "audibles" where you can click on them and call out certain sayings to whoever you are talking to.

There's a whole bunch of new smilies

There's a few new, interchangeable skins

There's a way you can now "Buzz" someone who's on you buddy list now. What that means is, if you both happen to have messenger up, but not active, you can click on there name and click on "buzz" and it will buzz them to try and get there attention. What it does is shakes there IM screen and buzzes it some. This what I am presuming is the best use is for that "buzz" feature is anyway :p

Other than that, it just has alot smoother, cleaner look and feel to it now.

The version 6 is now out of beta, and is full version new, and all the bugs are out of it now.

Is it a resource hog? Can you communicate with people that have MSN or Windows IM?

I will give it another shot. I really like the looks and the new stuff. I hope it goes better for me this time. Thanks NN.

(and Hal, its for other yahoo messenger users. It works in Trillian, but not in MSN or windows messenger as far as I know. When I downloaded it in Beta, it was a resource hog for me, but others didn't have that problem, I am hoping the finished version will work as well for me as the old one does.)

Well, I have to consider resources; I'm runnng the same OS as you except I have 1000 MHZ and 384 MB RAM.

Yes, you have to have accounts for the messengers, but I think you can un-install them if you have them already after installing Trillian. I liked it fine when I used more than one messenger. The drawback to me was the emoticons don't mean the same for each messenger. They have a lot of unique ones that are cool, but don't show up well on the other messengers of the person you are messaging. It just got confusing trying to figure them out. (and I enjoy using them.) I like the features of the individual messengers as well, that Trillian doesn't necessarily have. I have the free version, so I don't know what difference the paid version would have. It handles MSN messenger, yahoo, IRC, ICQ, and AIM. I don't have the link, but I think it is something like www.cerulan studios.com. You can do a search for it I am sure. They have different skins as well. Its a good free tool, but I am spoiled by all the other bells and whistles. :D (and emoticons. )

Thanks. I understand now how it works. All I had to do was create a hotmail account to get MSN Messenger to work, which is all I need. I don't care about the bells and stuff, I just wanted something simple to use with a friend that has MSN. Normally, I wouldn't bother with IM. E-mail is just fine for me. :-) Guess I'm getting old, an old fuddy duddy.

:D I decided to get the newest version of the Yahoo messenger and I'm loving it!!! Of all the messengers I've used so far (AOL, MSN, ICQ, Windows) Yahoo is the very best! I looooooove all the extras!!! :D
