Thank-you Sir Brett!
I have many friends on dial-up who will want this at some point in time when "I" deem it safe to install. :)

You know that's funny.
I saw that page on 08/05 and ordered mine. it seems they took the page down after that. Glad to see it's back up.
Got mine today and installed it.
No problems here. It's working great.

I just ordered mine since it was free. I am a bit puzzled as to why it is better to use the CD to download it instead of the Windows Update site. I have been receiving notices for about a week now that "updates are available to download" but have not done so due to all the warnings posted here and elsewhere. Does anyone have an opinion on this? Thanks in advance. (BTW, will keep checking back here for any response since I know I will not be getting an Email notification!)

I am a bit puzzled as to why it is better to use the CD to download it instead of the Windows Update site.
1. Dial-up users do not have to spend 6 months downloading it (ok, maybe that's a slight exaggeration!); and
2. Complications which could (possibly) arise through broken connections can be avoided.

Think about it. If you Order the CD only have to wait for it to come USPS.
If you D/L it online it takes many Hours on Dialup, and you also get a Bad D/L and have to do it over again.

I ordered it anyway even though I have it slipstreamed with winxp.

Even though I'm on cable I ordered it. I think it is nice to have on hand.
I hadn't been offered it for download yet.

I neglected to say that I have a cable connection (Roadrunner). Any advantage to using the CD vs. Windows Update in my circumstance?

Thanks Brett. I just ordered mine a few minutes ago. I have dial-up that frequently disconnects. Would not be a happy camper if I got 75% D/L and cut off, and have to D/L again. As slow as my dial-up is, it probably would take a couple of days.
This way I have the CD in case anything happens. It will take 4-6 weeks and that's ok. I was not planning to install it for a couple of months anyway. Want to wait and see how things go with more experienced people. Let them test drive it.

Other than having it handy and not having to download it ever.....no.
If you ever have to reformat (are you familiar with Janet? :D) you'll have to download it again.

The download has automatic resume so if you get disconnected it starts where you left off and works very well. I believe now you have to go to Windows Update to download it so you can click the user agreement, but it still remembers where it left off.

I have automatic download & it downloaded it the other night. It took several hours. I really didn't plan to download it just yet. It is still in my taskbar until I get brave enough to install it. Does it take very long to install with dial-up? I went ahead & ordered the CD just to have it on hand. Should I use the CD when I get it or can I since it's already been downloaded but not installed? Or is that a dumb question??

Thanks Crockett, Are you telling me it is safe to download from Windows Update now? Or should I still wait a couple of months until all the bugs are worked out? Always value your opinion here!

Thanks, I just read that today. It makes sense to work that way, otherwise, those of us that have dial-up would have a difficult time D/L if it kept cutting off.
It is 75MB and said it would take 6 hrs 8 min to D/L. Glad I ordered the CD.

Not that I'm gonna use it or anything :D, but man, that was quick.
I just checked the top of this thread for when I ordered it. (Aug.25th)
It only took one week. :D

Not sure of what you should do?
I have found 2 problems so far after I installed it.
1. Roxio Program not working.Driver needs updated I think.
2. I have had to make security adjustments on msn.com and msnbc.com
to automatically allow me to open links in both sites.
I suspect there maybe others that I have not encountered yet.

Ditto on mine coming today already....
Question.....A person cannot go back and uninstall this, correct? Once it's there, it's there?

I can't answer that because I'm waiting, but others have had success. I'm not taking that responsibility in telling you to go ahead. :)

Incorrect. (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;875350&Product=winxp)
The majority of installations are non-problematic, but there are a not insignificant number of issues. (http://forum.worldstart.com/showthread.php?t=45694)
Phil,
What "security adjustments" did you have to make?

Phil,

I went to internet propertys and typed address in question into "trusted sites"and then clicked on add.
My.msn.com and msnbc.com are the only two sites where I have encountered this. g.msn.com is the address I had to add.
Please let me know if I have done the right thing.
Thanks

I can find no mention of any issues involving Roxio products and SP2? Which of their programmes are you using and what, specifically, is the problem? Is there an error message? If so, what does it say?

Hi Brett,
Roxio Burner Program.
I only use it occasionally to copy cd to cd.
I do not get any error message but the program cannot find or recognize my d and e drives.
I will fool around with it tomorrow and I am heading to Vegas on Sunday so if I can't fix it I will repost when I get back.
Thanks for investigating this for me.
You are still THE MAN . :)

Hi Brett,
I was able to repair roxio burner by downloading an updated driver.
With regard to security settings, I disabled ZA and enabled Windows Firewall and reset all security settings to default settings. I will wait and see if I keep getting warning popups on the sites I mentioned in prior post.
I will post back with results after I return home later in the month.
Thanks for helping and maybe my results will help others.
Phil :)
