If you do re-boot to recover resources, there is a shortcut that MS does not tell people. When you click on "Restart", press and hold the "Shift" key until on the black screen, you see a something like "Windows restarting", then you can let up on the "Shift" key.

Hope this helps somebody, Rick :)

An extract from one of my favourite MSKB's:-

SYMPTOMS
When you restart Windows 95/98 while you are holding down the SHIFT key, Windows 95/98 may stop responding (hang), or you may receive an invalid page fault error message.

RESOLUTION
Do not hold down the SHIFT key while you are restarting your computer.

So nothing speeds up a restart other than only having critical programs running at startup? I've never heard of holding down the shift key before. It seems as though it doesn't work anyway

Bush posted the question and Kerry helped in answering it. At least they are working together...

Mr. Pres,

It is called a warm restart. Did it for years on my win98. Have not done it on XP.

LMAO that is hilarious, only M$ would do something like that!

Car owner: "I think my transmission is going to die, can you give me an estimate to replace it?"
MS Mechanic: "Don't worry madam, you don't need to replace it. Just don't use your car."
