Crockett~~
This is the first time I am making a Custom Blocking List, and I am stuck!
I have the list in Notepad. I have "Spyware Blaster" entered into the SAVE IN box, and "customblocking.txt" entered into the FILE NAME box, and "Text Documents" entered into SAVE AS TYPE box. When I click on SAVE, a dialogue box pops up that says: C\Program Files\Spyware Blaster\license.txt already exists. Do you want to replace it? Yes NO What should I do??
In your attachment it shows "customblocking.txt" on the first line. I have "license.txt" on the first line, and I can't figure out how to change it.
I have a feeling that If I just click on "yes" then the first line will change to customblocking .txt, but I am not sure~~Help will be appreciated!! Thank you!!

don't replace it.
use SAVE AS.
type it in yourself. name it customblocking.txt. It is a new file.

At the point in time you are saving the file it has to be saying license.txt rather than customblocking.txt, Penny?
1. copy and paste the file into a new empty Notepad. Start > Programs > Accessories > Notepad)
2. Click on File | Save As (not Save)
3. In the SAVE AS box, where it says Save In, browse to where your SpywareBlaster folder is. Mine is D:\Program Files\SpywareBlaster.
*Notice how the file name is still *.txt?
4. Now in the white window you should see three files:
License.txt
readme.txt
sbversion.txt
5. Make a fourth one and name it customblocking.txt (type it in)
6. Click SAVE.
You should not get a prompt about replacing the license.txt file because it's not named that.

I have done everything exactly as you have in your attachments through step 4. Step 5 is where I am stuck. For the life of me I can't figure out how to type a fourth one in under the three that are listed. (There just doesn't seem to be any way to type anything in that box under the list of three.)
Oh well, I give up!! I guess it isn't that important that I have the customblocking list~~I've gotten along without it until now.
Thanks anyway!! I very much appreciate your trying to help. Sorry I am so dense~~sometimes, this OLD brain just doesn't get it.

Penny...you don't type anything UNDER the other three.
The fourth file is the UNNAMED NOTEPAD FILE. You name the file in Notepad BEFORE you save it.
See my last attachment. That box is the result of me pressing File | Save As in Notepad.
Now all you need to do is bring it over to the SpywareBlaster folder through the browse feature.
After step 3, you have the file ready to be saved. All you need to do is name it in Notepad and browse to the SpywareBlaster folder . That is step 5.

SUCCESS!! :D
Geez!!!!! I was doing it right the whole time, but for some reason I kept getting that stupid pop up box which made me think I was doing something wrong. SOoooo, I then tried to type "customblocking" under the other three entries which of course would not work because you cannot type there!!!!!
Well, I decided to try it ONE more time doing it the way I had been all along and this time it went through without the pop up box appearing~~~go figure!!! I have absolutely no idea why it went through this last time, as I did it "exactly" the same way as about 10 times before when all I got was the dumb pop up~~or, at least, I think I did!!!!
You are SO kind to always hang in with me until I finally get it!! Thank you SO much!! Hope you don't mind a 74 year old gal sending you a big hug!! You are the best!! :D

Crockett,
I too am having problems.
I have followed your instructions up to the point where I open SpywareBlaster and then go to 'Tools' ....'Custom Blocking'
Your info then says that there should be some red items there........my list is blank!
I have looked in the SpywareBlaster folder and the 'customblocking.txt' file is there ok.
Am I putting the .txt file in the wrong folder?

Double click on that folder to see what is inside of it. It should open in Notepad.
It is in the right folder if it's in the SpywareBlaster installation folder inside Program Files.

Make sure SpywareBlaster is NOT RUNNING if that's the case.
My attachment shows what you should see after installing it , checking all items and having protection against them.
Also, make sure that when you copy that file, there is a part at the top and bottom that you are NOT to include or it won't work. See my second attachment showing what not to include and where to start the copy.

could the numbers 1-2-3-4-and 5 be causing it not to be there when I open spyware blaster and go to tools?

I got mine from your first post?
Hi, I might be wrong here but I think you are missing this in your file,,,,,,,,,
[Header]
ListNumber=205
Enter that and then save it and then open SpywareBlaster and see if it shows then. I had never added any custom blocking to my SpywareBlaster so I just went to the site that Crockett posted and copied it all and then deleted the lines that they said do not use. I hope this helps. Good luck and have a great night, Mark

Did it work for you.Maybe that is why it's not working for me, have never had one and was trying to add to something I didn't have, the header part is what I'm talking about.
Yep,,,, it worked for me. I thought I had everything right until I noticed I was missing the Header thingy. Try it and hopefully that is what you are missing. Good luck, Mark

Larry, those two lines that Mark is talking about, is included in my link. It will work whether you never used custom blocking before or if you're just replacing an older file.
BTW I showed in one attachment on this page in post #22, that those 2 lines are included....maybe that is why your lines weren't numbered in your file?

Sorry Crockett,
I have done everything you have said several times but it still don't work!
I have copied the list (leaving out the lines indicated) into Notepad, saved as 'customblocker.txt' into the SpywareBlaster folder and then opened SpywareBlaster and gone to 'Tools' ....'Custom Blocking'......and there is nothing there!
HELP!!!
Incidentally, my home computer is XP (this one is 2000) and Notepad does not seem to be there. I can find Wordpad OK..is that the same thing?
I can't get this to work on either computer...........DUH!

I'm lost...
Can you do me a favor and post a screenshot of what you see inside your SpywareBlaster folder from inside Windows Explorer?
Go to Start > Programs > Accessories> Windows Explorer and navigate your way to that folder just like my attachment. Please put your VIEW in DETAILS mode for me. Do that on the toolbar.
If you need help posting a screenshot, click the link under my sig for a guide or follow this:
Using Paint to PrintScreen and Crop part of a page:
1. Click on PRINT SCREEN.
2. open PAINT
3. click EDIT>PASTE
4. On the left side bar, choose the SELECT tool so that the dotted lines bordering your picture disappear.
5. Using your left mouse button, draw down and across to cover the area you want cropped.
6. Click on EDIT>CUT
7. Click on FILE >NEW
8. When it asks you to "Save changes to Untitled", say NO.
9. Click on EDIT>PASTE.
10. click FILE>SAVE AS
11. Browse to where ever you want to save it.
12. Name it something
13. change the file from a .bmp to a .jpg under SAVE AS TYPE
If it is too large a file to post as an attachment in this forum, go here:
http://imageshack.us/
Then copy and paste the code for Direct Link to image

There you go Crockett,
The only thing I can see different from yours is that the .txt extension is missing from my customblocking file.

There you go Crockett,
The only thing I can see different from yours is that the .txt extension is missing from my customblocking file.
-----------------------------------
That's cause you've got the option to hide file extensions on..........not a good idea!
BigBarney

If I have, it is not deliberate!
Where do I find this option?
The other files in the folder have their extensions showing OK.
Crockett
02-25-2005, 04:36 PM
Harley is correct in that it's not a good idea to have file extensions hidden, but I don't think that is the problem.
(BTW, you can fix that inside Control Panel > Folder Options > View tab. Uncheck "hide file extensions for known file types".
I also see that you did not name it correct. You named your's customblocker. It should be named customblocking. With the .txt extension.
BTW, forget this list because I'm posting a new one right now. :D
