My HP printer, over two years out of warranty, went on the fritz a couple days ago and I couldn't get it to work - the cartridge cradle had stuck all the way to the right and wouldn't move. I went to the HP homepage and checked out their trouble-shooting site and got nowhere. I then communicated online with one of their computer technicians. She couldn't get it fixed, either, but told me of a "new" promotion whereby they would send me a new one for free. Sounds fishy to me, but nevertheless I have a new one on the way. The only catch is that I have to return the old one. I have no problem with that. My guess is the "new" one they are sending is really a refurbished one, but as long as it works I'm a happy camper. I also imagine the old one being returned will later be sent to somebody as a free replacement.

What I'm suggesting to you is that after your printer warranty has expired and it quits for good, head on over to the manufacturer's site. You may or may not be surprised by what they may do. My guess is that your printer company wants you to stay with them because their real money is made through selling ink cartridges - not the printers.

Just thought I'd let you know.

Thanks for the tip! I'll keep it in mind, since I also have an out-of-warranty HP which could expire any day.

Unfortunately, up here in Canada, we never see that kind of customer service. At least I never have...........shame really. :(

I have a Dell Printer and a few months after I bought it, the paper would jam up everytime I would try and print something. So, I brought it back to the store I bought it from and they tried to fix it but couldn't. So, they replaced the printer at no cost to me which was very suprising. Originally they were saying that they could not replace it because I was using refilled ink cartriges which would void the warranty. So, I said that the cartige has nothing to do with the paper jamming up!!! A few days later I was back in the store picking up my new printer and have had no problems since.....knock on wood!!! :)

I was looking at new printers right after my granddaughter left for college. When I mentioned the HB 3 in 1 she lit up. We were in Radio Shack for something else and they had one left. I think the number on the box was 1315. The cord wasn't included. She got $10 off and that made it $89. A day or so later I was in Costco. The box had the number 1315xl on it. Price was $79. The cords were included. She returned hers and got the one at Costco. Amazing the difference it can make with you notice a couple extra letters on the box. I'm thinking costco is big enough to get what they want and they don't want what everyone has on the shelf.

Costco has certain items packaged for them. The #'s would identify it was a Costco Item not from Radio Shack etc. for returns this is extra security since Costco has an excellent return policy on electronics.
I need to try the HP return as I have a 6200 series printer that is slightly out of warranty and cartridge cradle sticks after 2 trips on a print.
I called before and HP wouldn't help me as it was out of warranty. i need to try online tech support.

I have a Canon all in 1 and it wouldn't fax, all other functions worked fine, but it quit faxing, so they send FEDEX overnight a new (refurbished) machine. I tried it out a few days all worked well, so I had to box up the one that didn't work less all the cords, paper trays etc and they paid for the return FEDEX as well.

The replacement printer that arrived shortly after my original post works just fine. It looks brand new, but there is a refurbished sticker on the bottom. It's an hp deskjet 5150, while the one it replaced was an hp deskjet 3820 or something like that.

I'm happy with this. Good luck to the rest of you.

I had purchased an Epson CX6400 about 1 and a half years ago, everything was fine untill recently the paper was not loading one sheet at a time anymore. Support advised me to clear any paper jambs and that was not the problem, so I took it back to Best Buy and found it covered under my extended warranty !!! Yippeee !!! They exchanged it for a New CX6600 right there on the spot and I paid another $20 to extend the warranty.
Just Fabulous !!! Epson Rocks !!!
