I've used Roxio 7 to put photos on a cd but when I want to add more it won't let me put more photos on to the cd. I know it's not full I've only put like 24 pics on one.
I've got a Dell dimension 4300s, XP,64ram 512 memory. I'm not sure if this is enough information. Not sure where to find info.
Thanks for helping this dummy!!!
Have a good 4th everyone!!

Hi !, Welcome to WSDI,
Probably the disk has been closed after the first 24 pics to allow the disk to function correctly on playback. With the disk in the drive right click on it and select properties, you'll probably find the disk shows full, even if way under capacity. Answer is not to create a new disk until you can fill it. Hope this helps. ;) :D

There are probably several reasons that you can't add to the CD after you put images on it:

You have a CD burner drive that is a CD-R only and not a CD-R/RW drive (write/rewrite)
You have marked the CD as being "finished" when you write on it which will close off the ability to write to the CD (this happens when you run the write operation on a CD burner and is final on CD-R media)
You are using a CD-R as opposed to a CD-RW media

if you are using CD-R media, that is a write once media which closes off the media and cannot be accessed again to write on it
a CD-RW (generally a more expensive media and also a different type of drive) can be written to, "erased", and more or different information written on the media

I can't help you here. Just wanted to respond to Lazlo. I only use CD-R and am able to add more pictures later. Just wanted to let you know. :)

Hi Rachel,
I'm thinking maybe sorie has made a slideshow of the pics, not just stored them on disk, these programs like Proshow Gold that I use usually close any disk so that playback problems aren't an issue, which can happen with an open disk. when just storing as I think you are doing, this isn't usually a problem. ;) :D

I do have a cd-rw. I put the pics on a Memorex Cd-r.I did go and right click and it shows it is full.Do I need a cd-rw to burn pics. What's the difference?
Is there a way to open up the cd and burn more pics on it or am I out of luck?
How do I keep the cd from closing when I put more pics on a new one?
I'm sorry about all the questions but I'm not good at this computer thing at all but I want to learn. Just a little slow!
I did tell it to do a slide show when I viewed it but not when I burned the pics on it.
Thank you for your patience with me.You folks sure are a big help!!

Hi Sorie,
It might be a good idea if you tell us what software you're using to burn your CD perhaps Nero or Roxio they're the most popular. You should be able to use CD-R or CD-RW, the only difference is that the latter can be wiped and used again.
Once a CD-R or any other type for that matter is closed, you can't open it again. Usually there's an option in the software to close or leave the disk open, this only applies to disks were you store files as data. If you've made a slide show disk, then the software used automatically closes the disk to prevent playback problems. Advise us on your software, someone will be familiar with it. Personally I use Nero. ;) :D

I have an older version of Roxio CD maker. On my version when you get ready to burn the CD, you can choose to finalize the CD, in which case you cannot add to it. I choose to finalize the session NOT finalize the CD, and that allows me to add additional pictures later.

Hope this helps.

Drag-to-Disc
Q. What is Drag-to-Disc?

A. Drag-to-Disc lets users back up their data directly to a recordable CD or DVD just as they may with a floppy disk. Drag-to-Disc lets them add files to their disc by simply dragging them. Drag-to-Disc can even be used in the same way users would move files in Windows Explorer.

Q. What are some of the features of Drag-to-Disc?

A. Drag-to-Disc features include:
• Adding files to more than one disc (disc spanning): If the total size of the files users add to a blank disc exceeds the capacity of the disc, Drag-to-Disc can add all the files across as many discs as it takes to copy the files.
• Default file type handling: Users can change the settings that determine how Drag-to-Disc automatically handles specific types of files that you add to a blank disc. Users can choose to add the files to a Drag-to-Disc disc as data, or send the files to another Roxio component to make a specialized disc (for example, audio CD, MP3 disc, VCD, SVCD, DVD-Video, or a disc made from a disc image file.)
• Auto-format blank media when saving files: When saving a file from any software program, users can save directly to the blank disc in their recorder. Drag-to-Disc will automatically format the media and then copy the file

Q. How do users drag files to disc?

A. Drag-to-Disc includes a small application window that appears on the user’s desktop (it looks like a disc icon). Users can drag files into the application window and they will be written right to your disc. Users can double click on the application window to open the disc in Windows Explorer. They can move, copy, rename or delete files directly on disc in Windows Explorer. If users do not want the full application window to run on their desktop, Drag-to-Disc includes options to minimize or hide it.

Hi Sorie,
I'm not familiar with Roxio, I've never used it so can't help, but I'm sure there are others who are more familiar. Anyone want to take this up ?. If you don't get much help here in WSDI, you may get more response in " Ask and Answer Questions " as your question is more general than a photographic problem. Good Luck , I hope you resolve the problem. ;) :D

I use Roxio, but right off the top of my head I can't remember at what point it asks if you want to close the disc. I'll be putting some photos on disc in the next couple of days. If you haven't got it resolved by then, I'll try to post some help for you. :)

Here is what I found using Roxio Version 5.3.5.10. I hope this helps you. :)

Step one: Click on record after you have your files selected to burn.

Step two: Click on options

Step three: Check mark Finalize session; Don't finalize CD

Click on these pictures; they are thumbnails. Sorry that I forgot to circle the things to click before I uploaded them to Photobucket. You'll figure it out. :)
