Camcorder Info please

OK so i'm looking at getting a digital camcorder soon. I've done the basic research and know the basics, but what i'm looking for is some info first hand from any of you that have used vhs-c, dv, etc...and what brands are known to be better (if any) from the others. I'm only looking at either side of $300 to spend, so that is only in the entry level area probably. I would go closer to $400 if it's really a good deal.

Ya. I can do some pretty good deals hunting. I go to Fat Wallet.com (http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/) all the time, so finding good deals shouldn't be an issue.
