Could someone take a look at this page and check out the camera's there and let me know which ones of the bunch would be the better buy for your buck? I don't want to spend a fortune, needless to say anything over $500.00 is not an option. Thanks :D

Hi Judy,
I have the Sony Cybershot 5.1 and I do like it but we just bought our son a Kodak easyshare 3.2. it's a lot cheaper and the pictures are very impressive. The settings are not as complicated as the Sony and you know I don't really use 1/2 my setting...maybe I will later but not now. So I only know about these 2 cameras. If I had to rebuy either one it would be the Kodak.

I recently purchased the Sony DSCH1 and so far have been very pleased. The price quoted on that web site was way higher than what I paid. Wolf/Reitz/Camera World sells the same camera for $499.00. Most of the reviews I read before buying were positive. It uses rechargeable AA batteries and of all the camera I have had (this is number 6) it has the most outstanding battery life of any camera. The manual is user friendly and has walked me through using numerous manual mode features. The auto mode is easy as well. It also comes equipped with optical image stabilization system and steadies a high range of shake and vibration frequencies when you zoom in on the subject from a distance, eliminating the ghosting effect. There is a red eye reduction feature. (A quick flash prior to the “real” flash firing) The LCD screen is larger than most cameras I have seen 2.5. The following is some copied and pasted features.
1/2.5" 5.1 Megapixel Super HAD™ CCD
Super HAD (Hole Accumulation Diode) CCDs provide excellent image quality by allowing more light to pass to each Pixel, increasing sensitivity and reducing noise.
Live Histogram Display
Available in capture and playback the Live Histogram Displays the concentration of Pixels at each luminosity value making it easy to evaluate correct exposure.
14-bit DXP A/D Conversion
Sony's 14-bit Digital Extended Processor captures the range between highlight and shadow with up to 16,384 values, for extended dynamic Contrast and detail.
Pre-Flash Metering
With a momentary pre-flash, the camera illuminates the subject and sets exposure through the lens for accurate flash metering.
Slow Shutter Noise Reduction
During long exposures, Slow Shutter NR captures the scene, and then the CCD noise pattern with a dark frame exposure. By subtracting the two, even long exposures can be clear.
32MB Internal Memory1 Included
Shoot without any Memory Stick media thanks to a 32MB internal memory1; Slot for optional Memory Stick® media or Memory Stick PRO™ media. Full 32MB of internal memory can be copied to optional Memory Stick media.
9 Shot Burst Mode
Capture up to 9 5MP shots (fine) or 100 shots VGA (standard) at 0.7 frame/sec. Perfect for high speed subjects or fast moving action such as sports or small children.
Multi-Burst Mode
Captures 16 320 x 240 frames as part of a single 1280x960 image which plays back sequentially in the camera. Selectable 1/7.5, 1/15, 1/30sec
MPEG Movie VX Standard/Fine Mode with Audio
Captures VGA (640 x 480) high frame rate (up to 30 frames per second) audio/video clips with length limited only by the capacity of the media. Video mail mode captures smaller file sizes suitable for email.
Some sites you can read reviews at are:

It may not be the best camera on the market, but it has still impressed me. My personal suggestion would be to buy a camera with more features than you think you will need. Because the more you learn about your camera the more you will want to use it. And better to have a camera you can "grow into" rather than haveing to purchase an upgrade.

Hi Sue,
Looking at the Sony Cybershot 5.1 on the website, it's says that Additional Lenses Available. Does that mean a person can buy extra lenses to fit on the camera itself? Is this the same camera you have?

Yeah, well that would be in Canadian dollars too so that's why it's more expensive to you.

Great advice, I will remember that...thanks sky. :)

Silly me, after I posted I realized why it sounded so high. I knew you would catch my error. Thanks for being so understanding and good luck on your camera quest.

just read the specs on this and about the only things i don't like is the flash-12'(but most all of them are like this) but you can use another flash w/it.
highest iso is 320(that's ok but)
highest shutter speed of 1/1000 (that's ok but)
doesn't shoot in raw(but you won't use it anyway)
what's good
ANTI_SHAKE!!!
2 types of mem cards supported
2,8- 4.5 shutter
ANTI_SHAKE
12x zoom
AAbattery compatible
ANTI-SHAKE

Hi Green:
The setting is usually on the top back of the camera for this. It's the lightning bolt icon. Click it a few times to view the settings in the display window. Red eye reduction is the *Eye in the Oval Icon*. This gives you a double flash, to stop (reduce) :) redeye. However, don't expect the best from this. She can use a second party app to reduce (eliminate) redeye. George.

or use an off camera flash if you can. red eye is the reflection off the back of the eye from the flash being directly in front of it..

This is true of all cameras. Try lots of angles but most particularly, what Roy said! George.
