Hello seems I only come here when I have a problem, and boy do I ever. I'm so much of a novice, I need baby steps. I have been updating spybot and sometimes get BADCHECKSUM next to English language. I'm getting the hotsearchbar even though I've updated, and it's not able to get rid of it.
Also I spent hours on this last night updating and rerunning etc... Windowssecuritycenter.antivirusdisablenotify and windowssecuritycenterfirewalldisablenotify keep appearing in RED also and keep coming back....also when you tell spybot to fix the errors and it does its restore, why does it take sometimes up to 30 minutes for it to fix what it can. can fix the windowssecurity ones but they keep coming back but cannot fixthe hotsearchbar.
What can I do to get rid of them once and for all? Thanks so much.

Select a Different D/L Site. Click the little arrow for the dropdown menu to select a different site.

Okay I can do that... I just changed the drop down like was recommended.. updated and ran the program again... it keeps showing hotsearchbar and says SOME PROBLESM COULDN'T BE FIXED. THE REASON COULD BE THE ASSOCIATED FILES ARE STILL IN USE (IN MEMORY). Even when I restart, it shows.
Any suggestions?

You probably have HOTSEARCHBAR installed.
BTW, that error message has no space between winhot and 32. It should be:
loadlibrary(winhot32.dll) failed.
You might want to try this:
1. Click: Start->Run.
2. At the prompt, type CMD and press OK.
3. At the flashing prompt type: c:\windows\system32\regsvr32.exe /u winhot32.dll (spacing is important)
3. You should get a system message saying that winhot32.dll has been unregistered.
REBOOT.
If that doesn't work:
You should follow ALL the instructions in my sticky post above as you have spyware.

Rogue antispyware products
Everything has been removed except for the blame hotsearchbar that spybot keeps finding and cannot remove..
I'm at a loss as to the next step. Thanks

You have a whole lot of security going on. Are you using both AVG and McAfee Virus protection?
I see both Spyware Doctor and Spybot's Tea Timer starting at boot. If Spyware Doctor's OnGuard is running then you should choose between the two for real-time protection at start and then only use the other to do manual scans.
Temporarily Disable Real Time Monitoring Programs (http://wiki.castlecops.com/Malware_Removal:_Temporarily_Disable_Real_Time_Mon itoring_Programs)
REBOOT
With everything else closed (right click and close programs running in the system tray beside clock), run HijackThis again and put a check beside these entries to fix:

i uninstalled spyware doctor and will go with spybot as I know that is better.
I did everything to the letter, and am running the scan and it pops up about the 15000 mark. What in the world am I going to do? How dangerous is this? I'm fanatical about running all my scans and have never experienced anything like this.
You say that AVG and macafee are too much together. I prefer to keep the macafee; should I just uninstall the AVG? Thanks so much for your time.

Never have 2 AV Programs Active at the same time, as they will conflict with each other. And deminish your Protection.

Did you keep Spybot's Tea Timer disabled during the scan like I told you?
Disable it, reboot, then scan.

Yes the tea timer was disabled, I rebooted and rescanned and it's still there.

Download, and run this:
http://www.f-secure.com/exclude/blacklight/index.shtml
Let me know what it finds.
If you want to use BlackLight to remove any hidden items it may find, do the following:
Select the hidden items you wish to rename in Step 2. We suggest that you rename only the absolutely necessary items.
Close all other programs before continuing, and then select "Next".
Select "Restart now" to restart the computer so the changes take effect
After the reboot, the hidden items should be renamed and visible on the computer. Re-run BlackLight to verify that hidden items are no longer found.
Then manually delete the file.

First of all Crocket, let me thank you for your time and attention to my problems. I went out last night and when I got home, my screen saver had changed and my AIM wasn't recognizing me anymore - it was asking me to sign up. I think I mentioned yesterday -it no longer recognizes my OUTLOOK which I can deal with, but my husband uses OUTLOOK EXPRESS. It asked me to recreate his which I stupidly did, and it did download all his mail, BUT his folders are gone. Is there anyway to recreate that?
The scan completed and no hidden items were found.
Please let me know the next step. I did run McAfee this morning and have no viruses.

Can you go through ALL the steps above in my sticky?
I'd like results of every scan you do (on-line/offline)
I'd also like an Uninstall list and another fresh HijackThis log too.

Okay how do I get the results to you? I just ran windows defender and it showed my system is running normally. I'm just not sure since I can't cut and paste to you. What is an uninstall list and how do I get this to you. Thanks

If the scans show anything, just type it here (name and location) or post a log if they have one.
Uninstall list is in Step #10.
That's exactly what I mean when I get frustrated when people said they did all my steps and only post a HJT log. :)

Well that's good that that bar doesn't pop up anymore.
Scans are ok.
Please post me the two logs from step #10, Michele.
Is it possible any of the scans did something to change Outlook?
I know that none of my instructions for you to fix stuff in HJT involved Outlook.
http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/assistance/HP052372001033.aspx
You might want to back up your stuff in Outlook using Personal Folders Backup (http://www.snapfiles.com/Freeware/comm/fwoutlook.html)

-Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.3 (newest version is 1.4)
-Viewpoint Manager (Remove Only)
-Viewpoint Media Player
-Vividence Connector
I'll be back with the HJT log findings.

WOULD YOU PLEASE TURN OFF THAT TEA TIMER! It will interfer with fixes.
Please download VirtumundoBeGone: http://secured2k.home.comcast.net/tools/VirtumundoBeGone.exe
1. Save it to your Desktop.
2. Locate and double-click VirtumundoBeGone.exe to run it.
3. Follow the instructions.
4. When the tool has finished running, exit and post the log that is produced.
5. Reboot your PC and post a fresh HJT log AND a description of how your PC is running.
If Virtumundo is NOT found, the tool will exit showing the log file.
If Virtumundo is found it will do the following:
Version 1.1
Create a Date/Time Stamped log file (VBG.TXT) on the All Users profile's Desktop.
Kill Internet Explorer and Explorer processes.
Rename the infected files with a .Vir extension (this is disable them from being run)
Remove the Browser Helper Object registry key
Adds a registry value to block file from running in Internet Explorer again.
Remove the Winlogon Notify registry key
Automatically restart the computer (via STOP error)
Note: This is a BLUE SCREEN "Fatal Error" Message. It is normal and expected. The tool ends an important Windows Process that was protecting the file and NT Security STOPS the system as soon as it detects this is happening.
Post back with results and One more HJT log.

Computer is lighting fast...
still don't know what to do about outlook
ok last question here and probably a stupid one.... if a system restore was done, would that recover my outlook documents and would it undo everything we've done the last day?

Do not use System Restore even if it works or you'll be back to sqaure one.
I left you links to try a restore on the last page for Outlook. Wait until this last log analysis is complete.

I asked you a long time ago to turn it off as well as other real-time protection until we are finished trying to fix things. It will block ALL registry changes.
Please turn it off.
With all programs closed, including Internet Explorer and any extra stuff by the clock (right click and exit), run HJT again and have it fix:

You did great! :)
Your log is clean and I'm positive your computer is clean.
Can you use Outlook?
If not, you may want to try to repair it as per my link on the last page.
Also, you need to turn off and then turn on System Restore to purge all those malware laden restore points and start fresh.
How is everything else running?

Well all my mail in outlook came in. the folders are gone and address book is gone. I have the address book backed up but not my folders... nor my husband's in Outlook Express. Big lesson learned...
Everything else seems to be running fine. I turned off the system restore and then turned it back on.
I cannot believe you gave me so much of your precious time this weekend, Crockett. You've helped me in the past, but your help this weekend was amazing. You are a great guy, and I'm sorry I drove you crazy :D . My husband says I do that well
I owe you big time but have no idea how I will ever repay you. THANK YOU SO MUCH......We are having horrific weather here tonight... already deaths to the west from tornados. I know you are having them in IN too. I'll pray for your safety.
You my friend ARE THE BEST!!!
Good night
Crockett

Thanks for your kind words, but I enjoy helping out.
I'm sorry your Outlook somehow got messed up. I don't have a clue how that happened unless one of the many scans somehow had a false-positive and removed something.
Download that Outlook Backup thing I mentioned. I use it and have it automatically remind me to back up my folders once a week. I save the backup on another drive/partition. I have access to it under my FILE menu (see screenshot)
There aren't any tornadoes in Northern Ontario. :D (at least not in the forseeable future)
