I'm just curious about this because I do this a bit with my photos and wondering if ya'll do this too. I will enhance the colors like contrast, saturation, brightness, etc. Am I "doctoring", not sure if that's what you'd call it, by doing this to my photo. I just find sometimes a picture I take can look so much better by playing around with it a bit. Is this cheating? :o
P.S. Is this permitted in photo contests, like the POTM that Steve will have here at DI?

LOL: well Judy it's only cheating if you enter photo contests and they ask you not to do anything to your pic. You see anyone can tell what you have done to your photo so it's not really hidden info. I suggest though if you work on a photo work on it in TIF image first and then save it to JPG or whatever you want after that. Working in TIF keeps the quality. I'm sure someone else can explain it much better to you. But as photographers we have a creative license with our own work. I can say there isn't too may photos that I've taken that I don't have to brighten or something to it. There has been a few but not too many.

Thank-you Sue. That's good to know. :)
My pictures upload to my computer in jpg format so if I happen to do anything with the picture I do it with the original and then resave another copy of it to jpg format also. I always keep my originals.

Hi Judy,
Adjust photos is something we all do, I even use to adjust (ok correct) my photos back when all we had were darkrooms.

I prefer to call it improving and don’t think that there is anything wrong with that. Have been working on improving my face but don’t think there is anything that can be done with it :) :)
