Question Microsoft Silverlight

Has anyone here installed Microsoft Silver light and if so what exactly is it?
When I'm on site a pop up asks me to install this utility in order to obtain a
much better experience in computing.

Thanks guys!

I found this for automatic updates, I have mine shut off because they keep throwing the SP 3
package at me.

It is a browser application similar to Adobe Flash Player. It allows you to view graphics, animation, audio in your web browser.

MS Silver Light

A while back I was under the impression that it would do great wonders! When I installed it, something took over and really caused havoc which led to a complete reinstall of the OS! Not sure what it is today or if it will cause any problems. Of course, anything is possible! It is also possible that it did not cause my problem, but, I always thought it did! Still won't touch it!
Good luck

Whereas I installed it the first time it was offered and it has never caused me a moment's grief, either on my desktop or my wife's laptop.

Remember that people who don't have problems rarely feel the need to mention that fact, while those who do tend to yell about it.

I'd wager that for every complaint you find there are thousands of happy campers.

I've never had problems with it, however, I don't know if any web sites have tried to use it! I don't have a clue how one would know that.

Here is one site which uses silverlight. Be sure to try the zoom (Use the wheel on your mouse to zoom in) Also right click and if you have silverlight, it will say silverlight. I don't know what it will do if you don't have silverlight.

No the basic webpage would open but when I attempted to open a tab I thought would be music I received the warning notice. Perhaps some part of the website is allowed. But I usually do not struggle with the system.

It's not the system, it's software you are running. And what's more, it's wrong. That is not a gambling site. It is simply a site in which the word "casino" occurs.

Some of these "protective" applications are simply absurd.

Here is another excellent site where silverlight is use. Every now and then I get an email of a mosaic tiled picture where silverlight is required. Again, with this one, use the wheel on your mouse to zoom in.

"To use Deep Zoom:

* Click on any picture to zoom into that picture a bit each time you click.
* Likewise, hold the shift key down while you click to zoom back out.
* Or you can roll your mouse wheel to zoom in or out of any photo.
* You can drag the photos around to position yourself within a photo and keep zooming deeper to see more detail.
* If you have a slow connection to the Internet, it may take a moment for the photo to 'crystallize' each time you zoom in."

Silverlight is also the default player to view videos on some websites.
