Help on Icon's

I thought I had posted this earlier but it must not of took so will try again.
A friend called and wanted to know how to install new icons to her list.I thought I could help but I can't even find where they are on the Pc.If some one can tell me where they are stored can't you just drag and drop new ones into that folder ?? they should then show up when trying to cutomize your folders??

Make sure your computer is set to Show hidden files and folders.

Once done, open up My Computer or Windows Explorer and go to:
C:\WINDOWS\Installed System Icons folder. This is where the ones your using are.
Windows grabs them from different places within files, but you don't want to worry about that or that folder or even touch it.

Go on the internet and search for icons. Anyone with a file extension ending in .ico is what you want.
Make yourself an icon folder on your computer. Save any downloaded .ico files in there.
Once you have the ones you want to use, just right click on any program and choose PROPERTIES.
Click on CHANGE ICON and browse to your icon folder to use the new one.

My favorite ones are Icon-A-Day series.

Hi again
I really hate being a pest but before I sent this on to my friend thought I would try for myself.And this where I am,I went into one of the suggested sites made a folder in my documents new icons,saved a few to that folder/then have a folder I keep on my desk top called (new music) I had first went in folder options and put a ck mark by show hidden files,I the opened right clicked my new music file/selected customize
found folder with icon and selected the music icon/clicked on apply and OK/ the picture was on the folder but when back on the desktop it does not show/when I go back in to customize the picture does show ??what am I missing maybe a step or 2. I am normaly out of step any how.

Can't answer your question, but, wanted to let you know that Irfanview will let you save your own pictures as icons.

While I am waiting for some nice person to enlighten me on the other problem maybe I could get you to tell me how to save my pics as icons.
I went into irfanview help and searched around but did not see anything I thought might do it??

If you have irfanview installed, with a picture open you can choose "Save as" and choose icon or .ico.

I did that Bear That I had no problem with once I was told how.
