Question Friends Apple Mac has died.

I've just had a frantic phone call from a friend who says that his Apple Mac has died. Yesterday I sent him an e-mail telling him about the Malware Threat forecast for Monday and sent him Judy's response (see below ) That went OK and the background came up green, he also ran his security programme scans and those came up clean. This morning, he says that although the power is on and going to his computer , nothing happens, just a blank white screen.
I know nothing about Apple Macs but just advised him to switch it off and unplug his computer from the mains and wait until I hear back from those more knowledgeable than me . Any help gratefully received !

Here is the direct link to test your machine to see if you do have this malware on your computer. Very simple, takes about one second. Just click the link,

http://www.dns-ok.us/

if background picture you see is Green then you are fine, if background of the picture is Red then you DO have this malware on the computer.

Clean out temp files and internet temp file.

Download and run TDSSKiller, which is a rootkit remover from Kaspersky.

Then download, install, update and run a Full Scan with MBA-M. Have it remove everything found and reboot the computer.

You can also begin a NEW thread in PC Ask and Answer Questions and you will receive help in removing this. But as the link Terc6 posted said, you need to clean it out BEFORE Monday if you do find that you have it on your computer.

Dawn, I, like you, know absolutely nothing about Apple computers but a search gave me these links...doesn't sound good

https://discussions.apple.com/thread...art=0&tstart=0

And this one with a bit more information:

And this one with a lot of links on it your friend can go through...none of it sounds very good though:

Thank you for all those links Judy; I've just phoned my friend and he was so grateful to you for finding all that information. He had tried rebooting it but still got the WSOD. Luckily, it is still under warranty, so he is off to the Glasgow Apple store first thing in the morning. Thanks again for your help.

Happy I could find "something" for him and really glad for him that it is still under warranty. A good lesson for all really, know your warranty period and if it IS under warranty, for heavens sake USE it. So many folks do have a computer under warranty but sometimes void that warranty by trying to do something themselves. Know the warranty and follow it.
