Password Safety

Choosing a secure, unique password is important and helps keep your online accounts safe. Here are some tips for creating a secure password.
Choose a password that is at least 8-10 characters long. The longer the better.
Include letters, numbers and symbols. Use case sensitivity (upper and lower case letters). Use as many different characters as possible.
Donít use the same password for everything. Use a unique password for each site you register with.
Donít use common words, geographical names or locations, your name, your petís name, the name of a family member, your address, phone number, birthday or other meaningful number or date or any other personal information. Donít use any words that can be found in the dictionary.
Donít save your passwords in your web browser.
Choose a password you can remember but that is not easy for someone else to guess.
Keep your passwords to yourself.
Change your passwords often. Every 1-3 months.
If you suspect someone has gained access to any of your passwords change them immediately.
Make sure no one is standing next to you or watching when you enter your password.
Avoid typing your password on any public computer.
Donít write your password down and stick it to your computer monitor or other location where someone can see it.
Use an online password generator if you donít want to choose the passwords yourself. There are many sites on the internet that will allow you to generate a random, secure password.

Use a password manager program to securely store your login and password information.
Keepass: KeePass is a free open source password manager, which helps you to manage your passwords in a secure way.
ewallet: ewallet works with iPhone and iPad. There is also a Windows application.
