Inserting Screen Shot Attachments in a post

Use a screen capture utility to capture the area of the screen you would like to post. If you are running Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1 you can use the Snipping Tool to capture a screen shot.

See tutorial here on how to use the Snipping Tool.

http://lswindowssnippingtool.blogspot.com/

You can also download and install another screen capture utility. There are many free programs to choose from. Greenshot and Xnview are both free. Both give you more options when working with your image than the Snipping Tool does.

Download Greenshot here.
http://getgreenshot.org/downloads/

View Greenshot tutorial here.
http://getgreenshot.org/faq/

Download Xnview here.
http://www.xnview.com/en/

View Xnview tutorial here.

Once you have the screenshot captured you want to save the file to your computer. After the file has been saved you are ready to upload it to your post.

1) Create a new post or reply to an existing post.
2) In the new post window click the insert attachment menu. (see attachment)
3) In the manage attachment window click the browse button to browse to the location on our computer where the file is saved. (see attachment)
4) You can insert multiple attachments. After inserting the first attachment use the second browse button and browse to the location on your computer where the attachment is saved. Do the same for each additional attachment you would like to insert. You can also insert an image from a website by using the “upload file from URL” option. Copy and paste the URL to the site where the image is hosted into that field, then click the upload button.
5) After you have finished inserting all of your attachments click the upload button to upload the attachments. When you are finished uploading the attachments, click the “close this window” button at the top or bottom of the manage attachments window.
6) Click the submit new thread button or submit reply button to publish your post.

The snipping tool is quite good. I used to use an external app for this before my work laptop got upgraded from XP to windows 7. So many times I am looking to share info out of SAP with coworkers, and it is so much better to drop in part of a window rather than the whole screen!

On a related note, those (mostly in sales) that screenshot something that is obviously out of a spreadsheet, send it on to our department, and expect us to fill in related info are neanderthals. COPY AND PASTE THE CELLS PEOPLE!

Thumbs up

What would be the easiest way is if the forum had an ability to "Paste" something into it's posts.

Got it, thanks. Still wish we could just copy and paste a photo in our forums posts, instead of using a third party program to do the same thing.

You're welcome Bill. The Snipping Tool is included in Windows 7 and 8 so there is nothing to download. It is a Microsoft Program. But I understand what you are saying.
