Java

Help. My computer updated this morning and since then I can't enable Java. It says it's enabled but won't work. Also my gmail won't load without Java. I don't use Java much but have been using it a long time.
I have searched and can't find any answers. I would at least like to get my gmail back. I can get it using HTML but I don't like that at all. This is Firefox.
Using Opera the gmail works ok but can't enable Java. Java is up to date.
Only someone here can answer my question I think.
The update to my windows 10 was just this morning.

It must be something else causing the gmail problem because Java is not needed for gmail, I use Firefox and don't have Java installed. Are you talking Java or Javascript? They are not the same thing and other than the letters "java" they have nothing to do with each other.

Then it has absolutely nothing to do with Java. Java is considered very unsafe and really is rarely even used except by some games today. It has been strongly advised for several years that you do not install Java unless it is absolutely needed.

What version of Firefox do you have? Most current version is 52.0. It should be enabled by default.

You have to attach it. Save it ON your computer as a .jpg.
Then to attach it here when you are doing a post scroll down below the submit reply button to the area before where you will see a button that says Manage Attachments. Click that.
Then a small box will open with buttons for you to browse for the picture you want to attach. Hit browse, find the picture, click Upload
Attached Images

I found my javascript. Thank goodness. I went to about:config and changed it from false to true. I seem to have my gmail back.
Although I still can't enable Java. I guess I will have to learn to live without it.

What do you actually need Java for???

Read this information from Mozilla:

Read the Mozilla link I posted for you. This all IS explained and you will also see that Firefox is NOT alone in this, Chrome and Edge have done the same.
But that link DOES give information on what to do so that you can use the sites you want.

What games are you playing on allstarpuzzles.com.?

I did read the link and see that I can download an extension but I've chosen not to. I'm too worried I might do something wrong.
The cryptogram games and others on the site. They are just silly little habit forming time passers. I can live without them.

I wouldn't download it either.

Here is a very good puzzle/game site. All kinds of different games. I have used it for years, and as I said, I haven't had Java installed in years. Don't think there are any that require Java but even if there are, there are hundreds of others that do not require it. Lots of word puzzles, don't know if there are any cryptograms or not.

Take a look, I am sure you'll find something.

Thank you. I'm actually kind of glad to get forced away from Java. I always knew it wasn't that secure.
I appreciate your time. I definitely will check out the link.

You're welcome. Know what you mean about the Java. Once it became increasingly not recommended and I knew the only thing it was used for on my computer was games I decided that was just not enough of a reason to have it.

That Post web site is really loaded with some great games. I have used it for many years.
