Email program

I had been using Windows Live Mail for several years. It stopped working last year. I now use Outlook.com. Whenever I scan a document to email it opens up Windows Live Mail. How would I get it to open Outlook.Com? instead. I am still using my live.com email address. I prefer Windows Live, but I don't think it is supported my my PC anymore. Anyway, I just need it to open up Outlook.com so it will send the document to it instead of Live Mail. I hope that I didn't confuse anyone. I guess what I'm trying to say is how do I make Outlook.com the default? Thanks for anyones assistance.

Since Windows Live Mail is a program on your pc and Outlook.com is webmail and not on your pc, I am not sure you can do what you wish.

You can look at your scanner options and see if it will send direct to outlook.com (doubtful). What you may need to do is to save your scanned output to your pc and then attach it as a file to your outgoing email.

No, the scanner does not give the option. I will have to save it to the pc, then email it. What is the reason that I cannot use Windows Live Mail anymore. Is it because I am still using 7 instead of upgrading to 10?

Nope. WLM works well with Win 7,8, 8.1 and also 10.

What kind of problem are you having with it?

You will need to get a different email client https://blogs.office.com/2016/05/05/...l-application/

Earlier this year we introduced a new Outlook.com and began rolling out an exciting new email and calendar experience to users worldwide. So far we’ve upgraded more than 175 million accounts and each week millions more people are using the new Outlook.com to collaborate effortlessly, focus on what matters and get more done.

To provide you an email experience with enhanced performance, security and reliability, the new Outlook.com has been built upon our latest Office 365 infrastructure. Because the Windows Live Mail 2012 email application doesn’t support the protocols used by this new infrastructure, you will not be able to send or receive Outlook.com email from Windows Live Mail 2012 after your account is upgraded. This means the time has come for you to upgrade to a new email application

Are you using a Outlook, Hotmail, Live, or MSN email address? Those were the email providers affected. Otherwise as Funtimes pointed out above, WLM works well with Win 7,8, 8.1 and also 10. I use it without difficulty on all of my computers, but I have an email address provided by my ISP.

yes, I am using a live.com email address even tho I get my mail from outlook.com. To change my email address would be such a pain because I pay all bills and get a ton of emails that I want to receive.

Then you are stuck since that is a MS address and MS pushing the switch from WLM. It of course is no longer being updated but certainly can be used, unless you have a MS email address.
If you want something that works similarly to WLM then try Thunderbird. You can use ANY email address with it so address change is NOT necessary.

You're welcome.

EDIT: I may have spoken too soon telling you that are stuck and for that I apologize. You might try these instructions on how you may be able to continue using your WLM to access your Live.com email. It involves creating a new account in WLM for your existing email address, but check the box that says “Manually configure server settings” and then follow all of the instructions given. I cannot guarantee this will work but it won't hurt either.

All instructions are found here:

Post back to let all know if it works. Others likely have the same problem

from reading what I saw I believe that I can't do much because I am still running Windows 7. You know what tho, I have become used to using Outlook, so I think that I will just stick with it.

I missed the line in your thread where you said you converted to Outlook.com last year. Then you are correct, you cannot go back. The switch to Outlook.com was originally rolled out as an Option, "Not a have to". If you had chosen not to do that back then you could have used the instructions in the link. Sorry.

You might as well uninstall Windows Live Mail because all it is doing is taking up space.

Yes, I wondered if I could uninstall WLM. Now that I know that I can, I will go ahead and get rid of it. Thank you all so much for your help. It really is appreciated.

Same problem. When I go to my Documents to send an email, it still opens Windows Live Mail instead of Outlook.co. Is there anyway to change that. I don't see anything in in my programs that gives me the option to uninstall Windows Live Mail.

Windows Live Mail is part of Windows Live Essentials. You should be able to uninstall it the same way you uninstall any program by going to Programs and Features, Windows Live Essentials.

You also need to Remove WLM as default mail program.

Start, type default programs.
Click Default Programs under Programs in the search results.
Now click Set your default programs.
When that opens highlight Windows Live Mail and remove it.

Now you can’t make Outlook.com your default e-mail client because Outlook.com is a web-based e-mail service, accessed through a browser and not an e-mail client. An e-mail client is a program on your computer like WLM

It does not give me the option to uninstall. The only options it has is :
set this program as default
choose defaults for this program

How would I go about sending a document by email if it wont open up for outlook.com? Instead of my live.com address should I change to my outlook.com address?
