Linux replacement for XP

I have an older Dell laptop (Inspiron 1200) that has Windows XP on it. As Microsoft have ceased to support Windows XP, I am considering installing a Linux system on this laptop --- I hate Windows 8.

I like Windows XP and I am elderly so the conversion to Windows 8 is not something I want to go through. I have a Desktop PC with Windows 7 on it and I am quite happy with it.

What version of Linux would be the closest to Windows XP O/S ?

Thanks.

The closest OS to Windows is Zorin http://zorin-os.com/

My preference is Linux Mint http://www.linuxmint.com/
Try using them on a dvd first as a test to see which OS you like and then install
kinda of a test drive so to speak.

Thank you FOSTERHACKET:

I went to the Zorin link but on install I was to choose: OS8 or OS6. Which one should I choose?
I have Windows XP now on the laptop.

linux distr

FOSTER HACKETT:

I haven't installed Linux yet (I'm chicken) so I am still a Windows XP refugee. I tried burning Zorin O/S to a CD but was unsuccessful in getting it installed. I screwed up something I guess.

Now, I am considering going to a Linux site and ordering a Linux Distrib on a flash drive that I would get mailed to me.

The laptop with the XP is a Dell Inspiron 1200 and works fine with XP. But, I keep seeing the warnings about continueing to use XP.

What Linux Distrib would be the most similar to XP.

Thanks.
