Using Dropbox

Dropbox is an online file storage/sharing site. You can use Dropbox to save your files and access them from your computer, laptop or tablet. You can also use Dropbox to share files with other users. If you have a file that is too large to send as an email attachment you can upload the file to Dropbox and give other users access to that file.

Create a Dropbox account
Go to https://www.dropbox.com/ click login on the home page. If you already have an account enter your email address and password. If you do not have an account click “create an account” You will be prompted to enter your username, email address and password. Agree to the terms and conditions to create your account.

After your account has been created you will be prompted to download Dropbox. You can download Dropbox at that time or download it later. You can use the Dropbox web site without downloading and installing the software. Once the account has been created, go to https://www.dropbox.com/ click login on the home page and enter your email address and password to log into your account. Save the webpage in your favorites or bookmarks list for easy access in the future.

Downloading Dropbox
You can use Dropbox online without downloading any additional software or you can download and install the Dropbox program on your computer.
From the Dropbox homepage click the getting started tab on the menu bar.
Click install Dropbox on your computer.
A window will open asking if you want to run or save the file. Choose run to begin the installation.

Click the install button. When the installation is complete a window will open where you can create a Dropbox account or if you already have an account log into your existing account. Choose the option that applies to you. Click next. Depending on the option you chose you will either be prompted to create an account or enter your email address and password to log into your existing account. You will then be presented with a menu to choose which type of Dropbox account you would like to use. The free account will give you 2GB of storage space. Choose that option if you want to use only the free account which is adequate for most users. If you need more storage space you will have the option to sign up for a paid account. Choose the type of account you would like to use. Click next. Choose typical or advanced installation. Choose typical if you want to use the default Dropbox shared folder location. Choose advanced if you would like to specify a folder to use. Click next.
In the next menu choose to use the default Dropbox shared folder location or specify a folder you would like to use. Click next. The next menu will allow you to specify which folders in your Dropbox folder you would like to sync. You can choose automatic which would sync all folders in the Dropbox folder or selective which will allow you to sync only the folders you specify. Choose the option you want. Click next. The installation will complete. You will be presented with a menu that lets you take a tour of Dropbox. If you are new to Dropbox take the short tour to familiarize yourself with the program. Once the program has been installed, click start > all programs > Dropbox. This will place a Dropbox icon in the system tray notification area. From that icon you can change your Dropbox preferences, open your Dropbox folder, open the Dropbox website, view the list of recently changed files or close Dropbox.
