Email server not working

i use Mozilla Thunderbird for my emails yesterday some time it no longer brings my emails in . it shows checking for emails .yesterday it would show number of emails to be downloaded . but they would never come through. we called our isp tech support they said the server was down.. is there any type trouble shooting i can do? its has been full 24 hours or better since it did this. wed night i sent a email it worked ok.. not real sure if i checked it Thursday morning or not .. open for suggestions

You already received your answer directly from your ISP. Answer is in bold/red in your quoted question above.

Your ISP is having trouble with THEIR email server. There is absolutely nothing you or any of their other users can do. They must fix it, it is in "their" house not yours.

No, Thunderbird is your email PROGRAM, not a server.

The server is run by your ISP.

The server is essentially the "electronic post office" for email, just as the US Post Office is for paper mail.

What is a Mail Server?
i am not very good of what is what if it works it works .yesterday it should be up by evening time.. today same song dance thanks might i add i thought derek said it was thunderbird then he comes in said no its your isp . so like usual i jumped the gun
