Beware of Egoog!
SECURE COMPUTING: Stuff to keep you safe from harm!
-> FRAUDULENT SITE ASKS EBAY USERS FOR THEIR PASSWORDS A fraudulent Web site, apparently hosted in Florida, sent e-mails to eBay users, asking for passwords. It is not known how many people received the e-mails. The site, ebayupdates.com, has been taken down. This type of thing crops up occasionally, and not just on eBay. Legitimate companies won't send you e-mails asking for passwords or credit card numbers. Approach such requests very cautiously. --> MYSTERY HIJACKER SNATCHES HOME PAGE, SEARCH ENGINE Handsome Harley Drew, the program director at WGAC 580 AM in Augusta, GA, reported Wednesday that a search engine called Egoog had hijacked his home page setting in Internet Explorer. It also became his default search engine, and sometimes started Internet Explorer when he was working in other programs. Harley finally got rid of it using Trojan Guarder (Golden), from Your- Soft, http://www.your-soft.com. Your-Soft says this program identifies unknown Trojan horses. It is $49.95. Egoog apparently is brand new. I found a few messages on the Internet from other victims. Like Harley, they said they could not get rid of Egoog. I called Symantec, but Egoog was news to them. --> FIXES FOR MICROSOFT'S VIRTUAL MACHINE Microsoft has issued a new Virtual Machine, which reads java programs. It fixes flaws in the previous software. Get it at: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec...n/MS02-069.asp http://www.microsoft.com/security/se...s/ms02-069.asp
