Windows Media Player 11

Beta version of Windows Media Player 11 available here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Looks good, user interface a lot more friendly and easier to use.

I agree BigBarney. A nice easy to use interface.
Installed over the top and all went well.

When installed WMP 11, I also got these:

Windows Media Player 11 May 20, 2006
Microsoft User-Mode Driver Framework Feature Pack 1.0.0 (Pre-Release 5348) Microsoft Corporation May 20, 2006
Windows Media Format 11 runtime May 20, 2006

are they necessary ?

Do not know. It is a beta so I wouldn't mess with any of it. Downloaded it and using it is enough for me until the final version comes out.

When you say you got these, what do you mean?
I don't see any of these files in my installation.

FWIW

While some reviewers sorta like WMP11, this review (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...052000118.html) from the Washington Post is much less enthusiastic.

Particularly troublesome, to me, is the idea that WMP11 cannot be "rolled back" to your existing Windows Media Player via Add/Remove -- only by using System Restore. And System Restore can sometimes be a crapshoot.

I noticed the driver framework pack in my add/remove programs list the other day and was wondering where it came from. My problem is that since i installed WMP11 my security center now says i have no firewall or anti-virus installed, even though Zonealarm and AVG are both running as normal.
